Barista to Big Data

Accountability

Trying to figure out what to do after college eons ago, well maybe not literally a billion years ago, but 20 years ago when the job market was looking bleak was a bit disheartening. Falling into management positions in the customer service realm, proved to be how I was going to survive. Continuing school without a clear picture began to feel like an expense I did not want to risk taking on.

Fast forward many years later and I found myself back at school working toward becoming a Behavior Analyst, and a global pandemic forced me to sit and really think about what I wanted to do and where did I see myself. Came to the realization since I was already starting over, or perpetually trying to get started, what I really wanted was to finish the degree I started so long ago and get my B.S. in Information Technology. Through classes and boot camps I gain a fondness for Big Data, and in 2024 I finally did it I got my degree and here we are, massive tech layoffs throughout the commencement period, and now just massive layoffs as we head into whatever this period is going to be labeled when everything shakes out. What a better time to continue to develop skills for topics that were introduced in my classes and finally work in certifications I struggled to find time to devote to while working full time and going to school full time.

Now to what this will be, this is me being accountable to my future career and self. I will not be disheartened as the current job market ignores my efforts, I will continue learning and developing and I will finally pave my own path and get off this trail of trying to piece together jobs that kind of pay the bills at the expense of my circadian rhythm and ability to enjoy guilt free relaxation. This is my journey from Barista to Big Data.
